Junon
Once a
quiet fishing town, Junon is now the home of Shinra's naval base.
Go to the far north of town and you'll find that the guard won't
let you pass. Explore around a bit then, then head to the beach
to the southeast. There, you'll find a little girl, Priscilla,
playing with Mr. Dolphin. Then your next enemy boss, Bottomswell,
attacks. As the boss flies, it is normally out of reach, so use
spells, especially wind-oriented ones.
Even though you've kicked Bottomswell's butt, Priscilla is still in trouble. You'll need to give her CPR, and to do so more quickly, let the meter go up as far as you can without reaching the very top, or you'll be forced to exhale. After much ado, Priscilla will awaken.
Next, talk to the man in front of the house closest the entrance, and as a reward for saving Priscilla's life, you get to spend the night free. During the night, Jenova speaks to you, and when you awake, you hear an annoying marching parade tune humming outside. Tifa greets you and tells you something big's going on. Head outside to find the others and Priscilla, who'll award your bravery with the Shiva materia. Next, follow her south back to the beach and talk to her there. She'll now give you a whistle that'll let you hop aboard Mr. Dolphin and get up to the other part of Junon safely. To do this correctly, swim just northeast of where you stand. Be sure not to touch the electricity or you'll get a big shock out of it.
Once atop safely, head north to the
airport, where you'll have your first glimpse of the Highwind.
Head south until you hit a platform. Go down by pressing the
switch to the southwest. Once on the lower level, head south to
the canopy and enter it.
Upon entering, a commander mistakes you for one of his soldiers and tells you to dress up. Enter the locker room to the west and don the uniform hanging in the open locker. After that, get a bit of info on what you're suppose to be doing, save the game at the nearby Save Point, then follow the other soldiers out the southwest exit then south, where you'll learn that you're late. No sweat: just head west and take the shortcut to the parade. Try and raise the TV ratings by joining the marchers and keeping up with their precision. The better you do, the better the prize you get.
After all that fuss, the commander dismisses the other soldiers but keeps you in for the other ceremonies. Head back to the locker room and practice your gun salutes. Once you're through, you'll be given the chance to explore the town a bit. Pack up with items, accessories, materia, weapons, and armor, and when you're all through, head towards the Shinra cargo ship and drill for Rufus. If the president's good mood meter is below 50, you'll receive Silver Glasses from Heideggar; from 50 - 100, you'll get an HP Plus materia; and anything above a 100 will win you Cloud's Force Stealer, with the double materia growth. (Though the Force Stealer seems like a good thing to aim for, I personally prefer getting the HP Plus materia, as the Force Stealer will be available to you later on anyway.) After that, find Red XIII hiding nearby, laughing hysterically at your attempts, then head into the cargo ship.
