Secret Characters

In the game, you will get to have nine characters on your list of allies. However, you might not come upon two of these characters (namely Yuffie and Vincent) unless you go through a couple of steps.

Vincent

VincentVincent can be found in the dark basement of Shinra Mansion in Nibelheim. Getting him is complex and difficult but can be worthwhile. Start off by finding a safe. Examine it and you'll find that you'll have to put a combination in within the time span of 20 seconds. You can find a note somehwere in the Mansion that gives clues to the combination numbers, but to make things easier, I've got it down here just for you. It's right 36, left 10, right 59, and right 97. Be sure not to pass the number or you'll have to start all over again.

Upon opening the safe, Lost Number, a freaky enemy boss, pops out and attacks. Its HP is great (7000) and has some pretty hard-core attacks. Use magic on it at first, but when it turns around, revealing its other side, magic is pretty useless so use physical attacks. Beating it will reward you with Cosmo Memory (Red XIII's level 4 Limit Break), the Odin materia, and the Key to the Basement.

Now, head down to the basement and find the room with teh coffins. Eaxamine the center coffin and Vincent will float out. Tell him about your quest towards Sephiroth and talk to him about himself after he returns to his slumber. Leave the room and he will then join you.

Yuffie

YuffieTrek through FF7's forests and you'll eventually encounter a n unusual enemy, unusual in the fact that it's actually Yuffie. Defeat her and you'll soon find yourself in an open landscape. A brief conversation will ensue, whereupon your answers should be: bottom one, top, bottom, top, bottom. After doing so, she'll join you. By the way, don't use the Save Point!

Once Yuffie joins you, I recommend heading over to her hometown of Wutai (located on the chain of islands to the far west) for an optional quest. Upon arriving there, the pickpocketing ninja will steal most if not all of your materia. Enter the chase scene.

Explore about the town a bit and you'll find Godo in the inn, the Turks, and Turle Paradise (if you've read all six newsletters, you'll receive a prize; see the section on Turtle Paradise Newsletters for more info). Once you're finished with your leisurely stroll around town, get down to business and get your materia back!

Start off by going to the Item Shop and obtaining the MP Absorb materia from the chest, which Yuffie will snatch away. Go to the house nearest the town's exit and examine the screen. Yuffie will pop out and run away. Head to the exterior of Turtle Paradise and you'll find a jar wiggling. Strike it three times and Yuffie pops out. She surrenders and takes you to her house where she hid the materia.

But as soon as you get there, you'll find out it's a trap! No sweat: just pull back the lever to free your imprisoned friends (you'll know what I'm talking about when you get there). However, Yuffie has gotten away again! Head to the pagoda in the west side of the northern portion of Wutai and ring the bell. Doing this will open up a secret door.

Enter the pasageway and you'll find Yuffie...in the hands of Don Corneo! (Remember this sleezy character from Wall Market?) Also being held hostage is the Turk Elenea. Follow Don Corneo as he makes a run for it to the Da-Chao Statues. With the help of Reno and Rude, you'll find him with his female captives and Rapps, and enemy boss.

After defeating Rapps, Don Corneo is dispatched by Reno and Rude, the women are saved, Yuffie returns to you your materia (all out of order, though), and the Turks leave without a fight. Is it over? No! For what's coming up, equip Yuffie with the best weapons, armor, and materia and head over to the Pagoda of the Five Mighty Gods (the tallest one in Wutai) and prepare her (and her alone) for five gruesome fights with Gorky, Shake, Chekhov, Staniv and Godo (see the section on Enemy Bosses for more info on them).

After getting through this ordeal, Yuffie will be rewarded the Leviathan materia and her level 4 Limit Break Manual, All Creation.
