Shinra Tower

Shinra TowerUpon arriving there, you'll be given two choices: Barret's plan, which is to attack the Tower head-on; and Tifa's plan, which is to enter stealthily by way of the lengthy stairs to the west. Barret's plan will require you a couple of battles upon arriving, while Tifa's plan requires you to descend a long staircase, but you won't have any battles until the 59th floor. It doesn't make much of a difference which you choose (though I myself prefer Barret's), but wither way, don't forget to save your game before entering the tower.

If you chose Tifa's plan, all you'll have to do is run up 59 flights of steps (phew!) with items occasionally appearing. As for Barret's plan, you'll have encounters as you enter, but nothing that's too hard to handle. Go up the stairs and explore a bit first, and you'll find an Item Shop in the second floor. Afterwards, head back to the first floor and access the elevator to the north. Enter it and prepare for an onslaught of battles.

Through both ways, you'll end up in the 59th floor. Take care of the guards to the southeast, snatch the key, then enter the tubular elevator. You'll now have access to the 60th floor, which you should head to now.

In the 60th floor, go to the room in the northwest corner. You'll have to exit east and pass the guards without being detected and signal Barret and Tifa to do the same. Note that the guards to the east go faster, and you must complete this correctly or you'll have a battle and return to the same rut you were in. Once you've done it, take the staircase to the 61st floor.

In the next floor, talk to the man walking about near the stairway alcove. You'll be given a chance to ask him about Aeris or to just ignore him. Ignore him and you'll receive Keycard 62.

Mayor Domino resides in the 62nd floor, and you must answer his riddle correctly to get acess to thenext couple of floors. You can pay his deputy Hart for clues on the riddle, and as for me, I can't give you the answer since it'll always be different. But I can give you a clue. Check all the books in the libraries and you'll find a book that doesn't belong in that section. Notice the number on these "black sheep." The letters that correspond to those numbers will spell out teh answer (eg, if it were to say "14: Profile on Dr. Gast, Biologist," the letter in there would "S" since that's the 14th letter). If you get it right the first time, you'll get an Elemental materia. If you mess up, just keep on guessing until you get it right. You'll then receive Keycards 63, 64, and 65.

Completing the puzzle in the 63rd floor is optional but yields great prizes. First, talk to the computer in the southeast room, then head north and open the northeast door. Head west and open the northwest door. Take the coupon and use the chute to reach the room with the second coupon. Exit that room through the door and open the left gate. Head north to reach thethird coupon. Return to the computer and exchange Coupon A for a Star Pendant, Coupon B for a Four Slots armor, and Coupon C for an All materia.

In the 64th floor, you'll be able to rest and use the Save Point to save the game. After that, head over to the 65th floor, which is crawling with monsters.

Notice that a model of Midgar is located at the center of the room. You'll have to find its missing pieces in the chests scattered throughout the room. Only one will be opened at a time, and when you've found a Midgar Part, insert it into the model. When all but one part of the model has been restored, you'll receive Keycard 66.

Head over to teh bathroom in the northwest and climb into the vent by hopping onto the toilet. Doing so will let you eavesdrop on the Shinra executives. Once the meeting is finished, head out of there and follow Hojo, Shinra's head scientiest, up the stairs to the 67th floor.

JenovaContinue following Hojo, who'll unwittingly lead you to a tank holding a crimson canine. Once he's left, look into the other tank marked "Jenova" and you'll find a headless genetic freak inside. After that, head north then east to a Save Point, then enter the lift to the north.

In the 68th floor, you'll find Hojo peering into another tank, which holds Aeris...and the canine creature! You then confront Hojo and force him to open the tank. The canine leaps out and lunges at Hojo as Cloud saves Aeris. The canine then introduces himself as Red XIII then joins you. After that, three genetic freaks attack you: Laboratory Samples: H0512 and H0512-OPT. When fighting them, attack on the main boss as when he dies, they die, too.

Aeris and someone else agree to meet the others at the elevators on the 66th floor. Before leaving, don't forget to equip the Enemy Skill materia that's nowin the tank. Climb up the stairs to the east and obtain Keycard 68 from the Shinra employee.

Head back down to the 66th floor and try to use the elevators. However, Rude, stops you and imprisons you in jails in the 67th floor. Talk to everyone, then rest. When you awake, you'll find the door to your cell is unlocked and that the guards, and pretty much everyone else in the building, is dead. Get the key from the dead guard and emancipate your other allies. Next, choose your party and head over to the 69th floor and save your game in the Save Point there. Then, head up either staircase to get to the Penthouse.

Upon arriving at the Penthouse, you'll find that President Shinra is dead. Exit out through the door to the north and have a conversation with Shinra's new president, Rufus. Cloud tells everyone to leave, and they do so, but Tifa decides to wait for Cloud at the 69th floor.

You, as Aeris, then leads everyone to the 68th floor. Take the lift ou had used to get there, then exit through the elevators. At that point, you'll be confronted by Hundred Gunner and Heli-Gunner. As the bosses are mechanical, use Lightning attacks on them.

Mano a Mano with RufusAfter defeating them, the perspective is re-focused on Cloud. Get ready with a mano-a-mano battle with Rufus. Kill off his lackey first, then use Magic on him (since Barrier's probably already been cast on him). His gun does around 50 points worth of damage, so heal up every now and then. Afterwards, as with all the other Shinra people you fight, he'll escape through a chopper.

Escape!Head back indoors and down the stairs to the 69th floor and save the game before talking to Tifa. Afterwards, the camera will focus back on Aeris and the others, who try to escape but find the building totally blocked off by Shinra police. Then Tifa appears and leads the others to a truck as Cloud appears upon a motorcycle. You'll now escape into the Overworld!

You as Cloud must now protect your allies from the oncoming Shinra motorists. Ultimately, you'll come upon a dead end and fight your next boss, Motor Ball. Note that your HP depends on how much you've been hit in the chase, and be sure to change your party's order while fighting. Use lightning on the boss and constantly heal up. With that, your last fight in Midgar is over...for now.
