Mt. Corel

Corel ReactorHead north and you'll come upon a hiker. Talk to him, then continue heading north. You'll eventually end up on a high catwalk above a deep gorge leading to a gigantic furnace. Head south and take the ladder you find next to the furnace. Follow the train tracks east to the next area and keep on heading east.

The next area constitutes of a pair of tracks bobbing up and down. Continue heading east and you'll one time or another end up falling through the cracks in the tracks. At that point, rapidly press [Directional Button Left] or [Direction Button Right] to grab on to the items. You can only fall through each crack once, so don't mess up. Also in this area (on the base level, that is) are a couple of materia you can pick up easily.

When you're through exploring the area, take the lower tracks and you'll find your allies, who'll tell you that they can't cross because the drawbridge is up. So, head back west and take the upper tracks east. Continue east and you'll soon come upon a shack. Enter it and flip the switch from within, thus causing the bridge to lower. While also in that area, you can procure 10 Phoenix Downs by climbing the roundish wall to the east, and if you head to the northern portion of the lower area, you'll find a cave with a Power Source and a Tent.

Once you're through, head back west and take the lower tracks again. Cross the bridge and take the left path in the fork. Continue on that path, and you'll eventually arrive in the next area where a long suspension bridge is situated. Cross the bridge and you'll eventually end up in North Corel, Barret's hometown.

Upon arriving in North Corel, you'll be confronted by its residents, who are upset at Barret. It turns out that North Corel, the junky piece of land it is now, was once a prosperous mining town industrialized by the Shinra with Barret's support. However, the Shinra burned the town down and blamed Barret for their misery.

After the flashback, head west and you'll arrive at the Railway Station. Talk with Barret, then take the railway to your next and funnest destination: the Gold Saucer.
