Whirlwind Maze
Next, you find yourself atop a crater, the
crater in which Jenova crash landed into centuries ago. Begin
descending down the crater by heading east, and along the way,
Tifa stops you and insists on going. Choose another party member,
then continue east.
Save the game at the Save Point in the next area. After doing so, head north then west to your first of three energy barriers. You'll have to inch up to each energy barrier then go through them at the proper time to get through them safely, otherwise you'll be hurled back and encounter enemies. To get through the first one, just rush through when it fades away.
Once through that barrier, you'll find the Clones passing north. Follow them north through the winding path. Head to the next area and you'll find the next energy barrier and the Neo Bahamut materia. To pass this one, pick a space in between the two energy columns, which pass the equal intervals.
In the next area, you'll find Sephiroth killing off the remaining Clones to the north. Then, after some conversation, he brings out the JenovaDeath boss. Get fire protection before the battle, and avoid using fire-based spells as the will cure the boss.
After the fight, save the game and get the MP Turbo materia, then head north to the next area, where you'll regain the Black materia. Give it to Red XIII for safekeeping, or to Barret if Red XIII is in your party. Head north and you'll find the last energy barrier. Use the same techniques for this one as you did for the second energy barrier, but the energy columns pass at unequal intervals this time.
Sephiroth then manipulates Red
XIII (or Barret), then the perception turns back to Cloud, Tifa,
and your third party member. Flashbacks of Nibelheim occur, and
you'll learn that it was Zack, not Cloud, that accompanied
Sephiroth to Nibelheim five years ago, and there's that photo to
prove it! It turns out that Cloud is nothing more but a mere
Clone from the Jenova Project. Manipuilated by Sephiroth, Cloud
then gives up the Black materia to Sephiroth.
For what's next, Sephiroth uses the power of the Black Materia to cast the Ultimate Destructive Magic: Meteor.
