The Icicle Inn
In Corral Valley, climb up the series of creivces until you end up in the western portion of the cave, where you'll find a long ladder. Head down for an HP Plus materia and up to get to the Icicle area.
Once you're outdoors, save the game. Right about now is a good time to equp/unequip armor and materia, donning protection from the ice (such as the Aurora Armlet, Ice Ring, or Elemental + Ice on your armor) and getting fire-based weapons and materia (esp. Fire, or try putting Fire + Elemental on your weapon). Once you're all through getting ready, head west, north, then east to the Icicle Inn.
Explore the village and buy all the supplies you need. During your exploration, you'll find the former house of Aeris' real mother, Ifalna, in the west, and there, you can view video tapes that explain quite a bit. Once you're all through, head north and try to leave at the path there that heads east, but you'll find that the man won't let you go without a snowboard or a map.
Suddenly, Elena (much angered about Tseng's death) and some Shinra goons appear. If you dodge her attack, she'll go rolling off into the Great Glacier, but if she hits you, she knocks you out cold and you find yourself the next day in Ifalna's house.
After that ordeal with the Shinra, enter the house in the center of town and speak with the woman. After that, ask the little boy for his snowboard and he'll give it to you. Next, head to the house in the east and grab the map to the Great Glacier. You can also stock up on some items in the back room. Once you've got these two items, you'll be able to take the path in the north of town.
