An Underwater Voyage
Head for Junon and pay the guard to the north 10 gil to enter the "industrialized" part of the city. Head up using the elevator and save the game in teh Save Point neighboring the locker room. Head west and continue west to an alley where you'll find a drill sergeant and troop of Shinra soldiers. Go south and take the door you find there.
Enemy encounters occur here, so be wary. Exit the elevator and dispatch the guards. Head east, down through a door, west down two stairs, through yet another door, and finally east. Save your game at the Save Point there, then head south to the elevator. Take the platform down and exit west. Run north up the small passageway to an underwater tunnel (notice Mr. Dolphin swimming about) and continue north there.
You'll soon arrive at the underwater reactor. Fiddle with the elevator control to the west and head down the elevator. Head west through the catwalk and the door and you'll come upon another save point. Save your game there then head north. Kill off the guards then go through the door in the east. There you'll find Reno. Unfortunately, he doesn't have time to "deal with you," but he's left you a playmate: Carry Armor. Watch out for the robot's Lapis Laser! Heal constantly and attack the arms if they bind your foes.
After dispatching Carry Armor, you'll find that the red submarine has left. Head north to the other submarine, dispatching the guards you find before it. (Note that before entering it, you should retrieve the Leviathan Scales in the chest nearby. Take these to the fiery caves in the Da-Chao Statues to douse the flames and retrieve the Steal As Well materia there). Enter the submarine and use the Save Point within before heading to the cockpit in the north. Either choose to dispatch or spare the guards there, then prepare for and underwater voyage!
You'll have 10 minutes to destroy the red submarine. Continually fire torpedoes at it until it sinks. If you manage to sink it, use the submarine you're on to scour the ocean floor for the red submarine. Approach it and you'll find your third Huge Materia.
If you failed the mission, however, you'll end up on the shores of Junon. Retrace your steps to the naval base and pet the dog to move it out of your way. Enter the room and pet the dog twice more before hopping aboard the submarine.
With either submarine, head west to the spire peninsula on the eastern edge of the West Continent. (Along the way, you might spot an aquatic being leisurely swimming about. Leave it alone for now, as it is MUCH more powerful than you.) Enter the sunken plane you spot, which is the Sunken Gelnika Plane.
The enemies within are very tough, but
fortunately, there is a Save Point within. Save the game there
and heal up if necessary. Next, head east and you'll encounter
Reno and Rude. Dispose of them quickly, then explore the plane to
your heart's content. There, you'll find the Double Cut materia,
the Hades materia, Yuffie's ultimate weapon (Conformer), Cid's
level 4 Limit Break manual (Highwind) among many other items.
Another interesting thing about this plane is that morphing the
enemies here will produce a Source (see Morph-able
Enemies).
