War Games in Fort Condor
After that ordeal in North Corel, head back to the Highwind and head over to Fort Condor. (Remember this quaint little town with a condor atop it, located in the middle of the East Continent? Seems like ages ago...)
Buy some supplies here, as the place offers new materia. Once you're all through with that, speak to the old man at the table and he'll tell you that the Shinra are attacking. Head up the ladder to the north and speak to the man in the room up there. He'll tell you that, once again, the Shinra are attacking. The war games ensue! (See the section entitled War Games in Fort Condor for more info.)
If an enemy reaches the top, you'll find
yourself fighting a monster in regular battle mode. Whether you
win or lose, the egg will hatch, so head up there to receive the
Phoenix materia. Now here's the catch: if you won, head back
downstairs to receive another Huge Materia from the old man.
However, if you lost, oh well.
